Drink driving

Serious

The limit for most fully licensed drivers is 0.05 blood alcohol. For learner and provisional drivers it is zero.

  • Police can breath-test drivers at random, without any reason to suspect you.
  • Refusing a breath test is an offence in itself.
  • Penalties rise with the reading and can include losing your licence.
  • If you have been drinking, get a taxi or a rideshare, or stay where you are.
